Jerzy Treutler

He was born on the 31st of May 1931 in Beszyn, Kujawy region in central Poland, demonstranting passion for drawing since his childhood, which became the decisive factor in his future life. He graduated with a diploma in graphics in Warsaw Fine Art Academy under Professor Tadeusz Kulisiewicz in 1955, studying etching and printmaking, but shortly after took up design, in particular, poster design as his profession. He created over 200 posters for films, several circus, sport, events and poster for political agendas. He did not limit himself to poster design, and is the author of many book designs and hundreds of sketches and book illustrations, book covers as well as exhibition catalogues for various museums in Warsaw and satirical drawings and book-plates. He is well-known for creating company logos, including the iconic emblem of the Polish Fashion Company 'Moda Polska'. His posters and illustrations demonstrate a confidence in drawing, bold in colour; distinguished by abstract design typical of the Polish poster artist, underlining the strength of the message. A characteristic feature of his work is freedom, diversity and a vividness of his lines and a brand of humour.
